BENEFITS OF BECOMING A RANGE OFFICER

  • Use of the range when it is not open to the public.
  • Your family shoots free.
  • You may bring up to four guests to the range during non-public hours.
  • For each shift you work you earn one free daily pass to the range.
  • You will be reimbursed for mileage to and from the range for each shift that you work.
  • You will help to promote the public’s Second Amendment rights.
  • The personal satisfaction of helping to provide the public with a safe supervised place to shoot.

REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A RANGE OFFICER

  • Be a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). You can JOIN HERE .
  • Complete the Louisiana Hunter Safety INSTRUCTOR course. SELFS will arrange for this course or you may be able to find a course taught elsewhere in the state.
  • Become a NRA-Certified Range Safety Officer. SELFS will teach this course and pay the initial and ongoing NRA instructor costs as long as you are a Range Officer.
  • Work eight four or five hour shifts with an instructor as a Range Officer trainee.
  • Be approved as a Range Officer with full privileges by the SELFS Board of Directors.
  • Work a minimum of one four or five hour shift each month once you become a full Range Officer.

SPECIAL NOTES

  • Range Officers MAY NOT shoot while they are working their voluntary shift as a Range Officer. A Range Officer’s attention must be focused on the shooters that he or she is supervising. Range Officers may shoot before or after their assigned shift.
  • Because SELFS is a non-profit corporation Range Officers CAN NOT use the range for any commercial purpose while the range is closed to the public. This includes, but is not limited to, bringing any student/guest to the range who is taking a concealed carry course, NRA certified class, or any other activity where the Range Officer is being paid for his services by the student/guest.
  • Range Officers may use the range for commercial purposes when the range is open to the public and the Range Officer is not working a shift. The student will be treated the same as any other public shooter and will be charged the usual entrance fee.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

      1. First, print this page for future reference.
      2. Download the Range Officer Application, Complete it, and mail it to the address on the application.
      3. Once the application has been mailed to SELFS, Inc. and has been processed, you will receive a Welcome Letter. Contact the Training Coordinator using the contact information contained in the Welcome Letter.Tell him that you are an Applicant and would like to schedule your first training shift at the range. NO ONE FROM SELFS, INC. WILL CALL YOU! YOU MUST TAKE THE INITIATIVE AND CONTACT THE TRAINING COORDINATOR TO SCHEDULE YOUR FIRST SHIFT.
